Laurie Schott, a 200 Hour registered yoga teacher, has been teaching yoga since May 2007. She came to the fitness world after a 10 year career as a management consultant and senior manager in finance. While working, she attempted to fit exercise into her life, but travel and long hours often interfered. Laurie left the corporate world in 1999 to sail the east coast and Bahamas with her husband. Pregnant with her oldest son, she turned to prenatal yoga and biking to stay active while living on the boat, and she soon discovered that the almost constant back and neck pain she had experienced for years was gone. After her second son was born, she returned the gym environment, but this time it was sick children, school schedules, and a general lack of motivation interfering with a regular workout schedule. What she realized through all of this was that fitness must be a non-negotiable part of life in order to maintain overall wellness, and she became a certified group fitness instructor teaching step aerobics and body sculpting classes. After the birth of her 3rd son, she realized that her body needed a kinder, gentler approach to fitness and began studying yoga and Pilates. She completed her 200 hour yoga training with YogaFit and is working toward her 500 hour training with a focus on Yoga Therapy. In addition to yoga, Laurie teaches Pilates mat and reformer classes, completing her mat training with Peak (formerly SPIN) Pilates and reformer training with Stott Pilates.
In her role as an instructor and personal trainer, Laurie enjoys helping others find ways to create a healthier lifestyle for themselves. She is able to draw on her own personal experiences to help her clients find ways to make those lasting changes as they work fitness into their lives. As a Reiki 3 practitioner and Certified Nutritional Consultant, Laurie is able to offer her students and clients a comprehensive approach to managing their wellness. She is trained to work with special populations including pre/post-natal women, post-rehab clients, seniors, and children.
